Birthday Box

I celebrated my birthday last weekend. We got a lovely box of produce to celebrate!

I can’t wait to start cooking with this box. Hope I can get everything to turn out! Here’s what’s in the box:

  • Arugula
  • Pineapple
  • Sweet potatoes
  • White potatoes
  • Onions
  • Garlic
  • Carrots
  • Sugar Snap Peas
  • Tangerines
  • Kale
  • Salad mix

Which box item would you most like to cook with?

New Box, Sharing the Bounty

Harvest Box 3/8/13I was talking to one of my coworkers about our CSA boxes from Skarsgard Farms. She was so enthusiastic about the program that she signed up, too. Her motivation is similar to mine-the opportunity to try different vegetables.

If you don’t have a CSA in your area, you can achieve the same thing in your local grocery store. Every week, grab a vegetable (or fruit) that you haven’t tried before and figure out something to do with it. Farmer’s markets are a great way to discover new produce options.

Here’s what came in our box this week:

  • Red potatoes
  • Broccoli
  • Carrots
  • Apples
  • Green peppers
  • Parsley
  • Sugar snap peas
  • Tangerines
  • Tomatoes
  • Rainbow chard
  • Salad mix

Happy eating!

Box Full of Surprises

Harvest Box 2/22/13I was traveling unexpectedly last week, and forgot to go in and customize my produce box. So, I was completely surprised with the items we received this week. I definitely would have made changes-I now have way too many onions, we don’t eat avocado, and my husband can’t eat grapefruit. Cooking from this week’s box will definitely be an adventure!

Here’s what came in our “surprise” box:

  • Broccoli
  • 3 Giant onions
  • Carrots
  • 3 Avocado
  • Apples
  • Red bell pepper
  • Zucchini
  • Oranges
  • Grapefruit
  • 2 Heads of Romaine lettuce
  • Swiss chard

Hope I am up to the challenge!

Happy eating.

Sorry!

Sorry for my recent lack of posting. I delayed my box delivery a week due to a recent emergency out of town trip. (There may be a few more of those, so don’t be surprised.)

Harvest Box 2/7/13

The newest box was definitely worth the wait! Greens are back, though not my favorite lettuce mix. We are still getting winter fruit, too. Here’s what came this week:

  • 2 small butternut squash
  • sweet potatoes
  • onions
  • carrots
  • apples
  • red bell pepper
  • tangerines (they look yummy)
  • tomatoes
  • head lettuce
  • Swiss chard

Cold Weather Box

Harvest Box 1/18/13We got our new box of produce on Friday. I was going to write a post then, but I spent most of the day in the kitchen getting ready for our niece and her husband to come. A marathon weekend of Agricola (a really fun board game, if you are looking for a new one) later, I’m finally getting to my post.

Our CSA says that they are having a little trouble getting produce right now. It has been very cold here in the southwest. (It was 8 degrees when I left for work last Tuesday-pretty darn cold for us.) Many of the more tender crops-lettuce, chard, etc.-are in short supply. Having said that, they did send us chard this week. I finally got my squash, too. Here’s what is in this week’s box:

  • Frozen green chile
  • Butternut squash
  • White potatoes
  • Beets
  • Carrots
  • Apples (I got double)
  • Green peppers
  • Mini peppers
  • Pears
  • Swiss chard

Happy eating!
